[ARCHIVED] Mobile App Eases Process for New Drivers

Summertime means new young drivers applying for driver’s licenses and permits. Now, there’s an app for that.
The KS Vehicles Connect app (from the Kansas Department of Revenue) is free and available for both Android and Apple mobile devices through their respective app stores. Simply search for it and download it to your smartphone or mobile device.
It includes quick links to help find a driver’s license office and, for the largest offices in the state, current wait times and a text option to “get in line.” In this area, these additional services are offered at Sedgwick County offices, which now also are open on Saturday mornings (7:30-11:15 a.m.; 7:30-10:30 a.m. for tests).
One feature that could be particularly helpful to new drivers is the list of documents needed when applying for a license. This information is found in the app under “Online Services” and “Acceptable Documents.”
There also are links to download a driver’s handbook and parents driving program handbook, and to take a practice Kansas driving test.
The following information also is available in the app: graduated driver’s license requirements for teens ages 14-16, including what is needed for an instruction permit; farm permits for ages 14-15 and 16, and restricted licenses.
The app also offers online tag renewal, online voter registration, and online change of address, as well as a quick link to current weather and road conditions.
